Job Description
An OR Nurse, also known as a Perioperative Nurse, is a highly skilled and specialized nurse who assists surgeons during surgical procedures. They work in the operating room (OR) and ensure the safety and well-being of patients before, during, and after surgery.
The main responsibilities of an OR Nurse include:
- Preparing the operating room for surgery
- Assisting the surgical team by passing instruments, sponges, and other supplies
- Monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery
- Administering medications as directed by the surgeon or anesthesiologist
- Maintaining sterile techniques and a safe environment in the operating room
- Providing post-operative care and monitoring the patient’s recovery
The ideal candidate for this position should have a degree in nursing, preferably with specialized training in perioperative nursing. Strong critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under pressure are essential for success as an OR Nurse.
