Job Description
A Medical Billing Specialist plays a crucial role in the healthcare industry by ensuring accurate and timely billing procedures. They are responsible for processing patient data, verifying insurance details, and preparing and submitting claims to insurance companies. Additionally, they handle inquiries regarding billing, resolve any discrepancies, and monitor overdue accounts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviewing patient information and medical records to accurately code and bill procedures
- Verifying insurance eligibility and obtaining necessary authorizations
- Preparing and submitting claims to insurance companies for reimbursement
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of medical coding and billing regulations and guidelines
- Handling billing inquiries and resolving any discrepancies or issues
- Collaborating with healthcare providers to ensure proper documentation and accurate billing
- Monitoring and following up on accounts receivable and overdue payments
