Job Description

Responsible for managing nursing service activities for assigned patients in the clinic and operating room. Delegates responsibilities to clinic and operating room staff nurses including diagnostic technician roles, OPD nurse, admitting/discharge, circulating, and scrub nursing functions on both surgical and non-surgical days.

The Head Nurse oversees the functions of the Clinic and OR nurses, including:

• Supervising and monitoring the OR and Clinic nurses’ assigned tasks, ensuring the overall sanitation of the operating room surroundings and cleaning of instruments used.
• Coordinating with the Surgical Coordinator on the surgical schedule and procedures.
• Calibrating and operating essential machines needed in the Clinic and Operating Room.
• Collaborating with surgeons and anesthesiologists in the pre, actual, and post-surgical operation of patients.
• Supervising the preparation and maintenance of patient clinical records and writing reports on operating room staff performance and services rendered.
• Coordinating with the Admin Department in maintaining an inventory checklist of IOL (intraocular lens), supplies, medicines, equipment, and tracking of narcotics.
• Reviewing patient charts scheduled for operation the following day.

The Head Nurse also manages the overall patient clinic experience, including waiting time, managing patient expectations, and addressing patient complaints. Additionally, they provide overall support for the Medical Doctors. The Head Nurse is also responsible for developing a succession plan and training the Clinic and OR Team in the development of their functional competencies.
