Job Description

IRM is a not for profit organization working all across Pakistan. IRM is currently seeking applications from qualified, experienced, proactive and dynamic candidates for the position of Library Assistant at IRM Head Office, Islamabad.

Responsibilities

  • Tasks include selecting, acquiring, cataloguing, classifying, circulating, accessioning and maintaining library materials; and furnishing reference, bibliographical, and reader’s advisory services. May perform in-depth, strategic research, and synthesize, analyze, edit, and filter information.
  • Helping visitors/members locate books and find material online.
  • Sorting and shelving books according to their categorization.
  • Registering new visitors/members and maintaining and updating their profiles.
  • Organizing the repair of damaged books.
  • Bookkeeping and record keeping of library material.
  • Inspecting the condition of books before and after check-out to ascertain any damage on behalf of the member.
  • Managing inquiries over the counter and via email or telephone.
  • Assisting with library events and reading sessions.
  • Cataloguing audiovisual material and other mediums.
  • Settling any disruptions or disturbances in the library.
  • Acquiring online journals and sharing them with readers.
  • Any other task assigned by Supervisor / Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in a relevant field.
  • Strong IT skills and familiarity with the use of library databases and social media.
  • Team working, communication, and management skills.
  • Good writing and verbal communication skills in English and Urdu.
  • 1–2 years relevant experience in national or international libraries.
