Job Description
A Prosthetist & Orthotist is responsible for designing, fabricating, and fitting prosthetic limbs and orthopedic braces to help individuals with physical disabilities lead more independent lives. They work closely with healthcare professionals, including physicians and physical therapists, to assess patients’ needs and develop customized prosthetics and orthotics. As a Prosthetist & Orthotist, you will collaborate with patients to evaluate their mobility and functionality requirements. This involves taking precise measurements, creating molds, and utilizing advanced computer-aided design and manufacturing technology to design and fabricate prosthetic limbs or orthopedic braces that meet the patients’ unique needs. You will also be responsible for fitting and adjusting these devices to ensure they are comfortable and provide the necessary support for the patient. Additionally, you may need to provide ongoing maintenance and repairs, as well as educate patients on how to properly use and care for their prosthetics or orthotics. To succeed in this role, you will need strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work compassionately with patients. A background in healthcare, engineering, or a related field is typically required, along with the necessary certifications and licenses.
